The College football season is in full gear now. We are starting to get an understanding of the real contenders, and the conference races are heating up. Let’s check in on Week 4.
The 7:00 PM ET slot on ESPN has #11 Florida facing Tennessee. At 7:30 on ABC, #4 Oklahoma has a battle with West Virginia.
Huang Zhijie, the executive editor of Watching Media and a popular self-media blogger, has resurfaced after disappearing from social media for six months when one of his posts curried enough anonymous threats to himself and his family that he called the police. Huang’s troubles began around the Lunar New Year, when photos of people kowtowing to their elders made the rounds online. He lambasted the New Year’s tradition as “backwards”—and then was bombarded with phone calls and messages from strangers asking for his address. Mandy Zuo first reported on the controversy for the South China Morning Post in February:
In a now-censored WeChat post from May 11, Xiao Hui (@小晖) pointed out that Huang had been silent for two months to the day, and defended him as a chronicler of “the lives of ordinary people”:
Then, in early September, Huang announced his return on his WeChat public account, YouYouLuMing (@呦呦鹿鸣). (His account name is the first line of a poem from the Book of Songs.) In his post, translated in full below by CDT, Huang says nothing about why he vanished, but it appears from how worried his family had been that his disappearance was not his idea. It is also clear that in contrast with his critics’ accusations, he has an abiding respect for the power of Chinese tradition—though for him, that power comes not from immortals dwelling in mountains, but from the people who call on those immortals, the people who will do anything to save the ones they love:
It is highly unlikely that this post is even showing up on your feed.
If you are reading this, that means there is a thread that binds us, a connection that is as beautiful as it is good.
I have so much to say, but I don’t know where to begin.
Due to forces beyond my control, for the past six months I have been unable to update @YouYouLuMing or respond to your messages. It’s only today that I’ve been able to log back on, but as the WeChat platform automatically deletes older messages after a certain limit is reached, I’m afraid I’ll never get to read the majority of comments left by readers during my time away.
To me, there’s nothing more unfortunate in the world than this, because hidden in these messages are the feelings, great and small, that move us.
Luckily, I can peer through the cracks and still see a few.
A fan in Gansu Province sent me a message from outside the delivery room: “At 10:20 my child was born, a son, and I only wish that Master Huang could choose a name for him. When he grows up I’ll tell him the origin of his name, and he’ll be able to follow Master Huang’s account and read Master Huang’s essays. With you as his role model, he’ll surely grow up to become a just and honorable man.”
Even though @YouYouLuMing hadn’t been updated for quite some time, he was confident it would still be there when his child was grown.
Another friend left this note: “The other day at work I found myself in a panic thinking about what you are going through. In a moment of carelessness I was injured by something that fell and, well, bled quite a bit… You could say that the scar is there because of you, and each time I look at it I can’t help but think of what’s happening to you…”
My 70-year-old aunt, who hadn’t been able to see me for a long time and had no idea how I was doing, got so anxious that she decided to brave the wilderness and go up into the mountains to ask the local “immortals” for answers.
She drew three divination slips, and, to her surprise, all three indicated bad luck. Sure enough, worry gave way to fear, which gave way to dread. My aunt hurriedly made an offering, and headed home in a fury.
The very next day, my mom, dad, and the rest of the gang climbed back up the mountain. The first divination they drew was also bad. At that moment, my mother stood in the very spot where the local “immortals” have lived peacefully for over a thousand years, and, in a voice low and full of trepidation, told my life story. It went something like this: “Little Huang, this child… even though he left this place to seek his fortune and hasn’t been back to pay his respects to the ancestors and spirits, he’s still a good, reliable boy. I know you’ve looked after him since he was young, and truth be told he’s always revered the gods and honored his ancestors, and spends his time doing good deeds. I know the spirits are busy, but I beg you, please don’t forget that he’s a child of this land. When he faces raging waters, build him a bridge. When he meets with bad luck, turn it to good. We the faithful are grateful for your aid,” and so on. When she was done, she drew another divination slip, on which was written, “The clouds disperse / harmony from this day forth.”
And it was only then that their worries were relieved.
The best psychologist in China had been there all along.
I finally returned to my hometown two days ago. I had been gone for so long, but nothing had changed.
Looking up at the bright, blue sky, I felt once more the scorching autumn sun and the hot air as it rippled languidly through the valley, enveloping me in light… A thought took form in my mind: “It is as beautiful as it is good.”
You can breathe freely here. At any time, you can feel this wind, this sunshine. Your eyes move from the green of the trees to the white of the clouds, to the grey of the buildings, to the translucence of the water, to the quiet of the mountains, to the buzzing of the insects, connecting the whole… Even though you are silent, even though you are completely alone, it is sublime.
Why is Nature—and all living things—sublime? Because in this space between heaven and earth where we live and strive, immersed in time or simply marking it, there are people who care about one another.
How dear, this tender, anxious, hopeful care.
To those friends who never received a reply to the messages they left for me over the past six months (and even before), please take heart that your concern for me was not in vain.
I have maintained @YouYouLuMing for over eight years and written over a thousand essays. Though that may seem a gargantuan task, I’m not the one who should be offered thanks. In truth, it’s those friends who quietly cared about me who deserve thanks. It was you—each and every one of you, day after day—who gave me strength and inspiration, who gave me the courage to continue on, and who made me believe that there is such a thing as goodwill among strangers in this world. It was all of you who showed me that the world is “both beautiful and good.”
Tomorrow’s plans are for tomorrow. Today, right now, there is only one thing left for me to say: Thank you, dear readers, and I wish you the very best! [Chinese]

“Actor Kwaku Manu has shockingly confessed that there have been many occasions he had intimate relationships with other women even though he was legally married,” the website stated.
The publication reported him to have also added that “it is not easy for any man, whether rich or poor to be faithful to his wife, especially if the wife is one who does not stay at the same place with the husband in question.
However, Kwaku Manu has denied saying all these. He said Eugene Safo Nkansah, who is behind the website is telling blatant lies because he (Kwaku Manu) didn’t say those things though he spoke with him.
“Nkonkonsa I beg you, you people can rally tarnish people’s images too much … I know you work at Peace FM … when you called me what did we talk about for me to say that any man has cheated on his wife and it has brought a case? Look at what you have gone to write over there” he said in Twi.
Expressing his displeasure over the report, he advised Eugene Safo Nkansah that he is married too with just a child but if he is not careful about his ways of life, he won’t earn anything worthy from life.
“If it is your mind that you will always write what people haven’t said … if you say I have spoken with you, release audios to confirm what you have written, you tarnish people’s image too much, it’s not nice, this can make you to never prosper,” he said.
During the video, he mentioned Kobby Kyei who first broke the news as some few bloggers who do their work right – and goes by far to say that, the blogger’s news about his divorce is true.
Hear more from him in the video below.
With the Virginia Cavaliers kicking off against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons tonight, we chatted with Cameron Lemons Debro of Blogger So Dear about Wake Forest, the matchup with the ‘Hoos, and what he’s expecting out of tonight’s game.
Sam Hartman is a fairly established name in ACC football, but for our readers who may be less familiar with the rest of the Demon Deacon attack, who should Wahoo fans be most worried about among Hartman’s supporting cast?
Jaquarii Roberson is the easy answer, but given my stance on this game and the UVA defense, I’m going with tie: RB Christian Beal-Smith and WR A.T. Perry. Against this 3-3-5, specifically UVA’s, you can’t be afraid of running the ball. They’re going to guess right at times and get TFLs, but we see it time and time again with this defense: if they don’t guess right they’re getting torched.
CBS has been produced here and is head and shoulders the number one back on this team. I’m looking for him to get a bulk of the carries. When the defense gets lulled in by Wake running the ball, that’s where I think Perry comes in. He burned UVA for a touchdown last year when they played the run, I think he does it again. A 6-5 guy who just glides down the field is annoying as hell to deal with. Even more annoying when he’s actually fast.
Similar to how UVA went into last Saturday’s game against UNC having only played far inferior competition, what’re you feeling about how well the Demon Deacons have been tested so far and what’re you expecting against a likely step up in competition against Virginia?
I think they’ve been tested in one area: offensive line. FSU’s line is actually quite good! Jermaine Johnson will be in the NFL as a day 2, maybe 1, pick and Kier Thomas has been pretty good there. The step up in competition definitely comes in on seeing all facets of UVA’s offense. I feel fine?
They’re going to give up points, it’s going to be interesting to see how they deal with giving those up when it’s someone making a good play, not a coverage bust. The defense has been a surprise to a lot of fans, but not me. They’re finally healthy, and most importantly are deep pretty much across the board. The offense also shouldn’t have that much of an issue, but is going to have to pick their spots as they like doing their damage across the middle on *obvious* passing downs and that’s where UVA excels with this defensive scheme.
Considering that the Wake defense is yet to be truly tested — at least against an offense that is as highly powered as Virginia’s — what are your expectations for that unit and where would you expect potential weaknesses to be?
Again, fine? Traveon Redd against Jelani Woods is going to be fun. I don’t think there’s really anyone in the country that has a true answer for a 6-7 giant that isn’t terribly slow. Wicks poses a bit of an issue with his route running ability and Wake knows a thing or two about Highland Springs graduated(Billy Kemp IV and Greg Dortch were high school teammates.)
They’re going to give up yards and points through the air. The hope is that they play pretty much the same way as they did against FSU when Jordan Travis was in the game: stay in their lanes, don’t give up contain as Armstrong can get some yards on the ground, and bait him into some bad throws. Every QB is liable for them, it’s just going to be a matter of if he pulls the trigger. UVA is going to punch them in the mouth, and everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
If they can limit this team to about 30 I’ll say job well done and then the onus is on the offense. Focus is my main concern right now. I’m not all too worried about a rushing game from UVA, and again there’s not really a matchup for Jelani Woods. But last year Caelen Carson and Ja’Sir Taylor were two of the better corners in the ACC, and Carson in the country, this is where you earn your money.
The focus comes with what happens if the defensive line can’t get home as quickly as they have the last few games? Can the back end hold on? Will they break contain and let Armstrong go for 100 on the ground?
It’s been over a decade and two coaches ago since Virginia beat Wake Forest. Obviously much of that is due to rotating schedules across divisions, but is there something about UVA as a program that’s made the ‘Hoos an easy target for Wake Forest?
Absolutely not. I hate playing UVA. Not that there’s any bad blood, but they’re an annoyingly good team to go against. I was annoyed last year, and I was annoyed this year(I truly would’ve rather VT), they’re well-coached, a matchup nightmare and they force you to cross your T’s and dot your i’s. Is it ever an un-winnable game for Wake? No but think this one is just pure luck of the draw and it’s always a fun* matchup.
*fun for the bars that allow me to rack up a tab while I nervously watch
In a broader sense, what are your expectations for this Wake team? What’s a successful season in the Atlantic division?
I am on the expectation of this being a tail year. For me, the median outcome was 7 MAYBE 8 wins. If they play their cards right, they can go into a game in November against UNC 8-0 with the Tar Heels/NC State/Clemson/BC left on the table. There’s not much more you can ask in the Atlantic besides that, just at least give yourself a chance to fight Goliath(Clemson) for a chance for an ACC championship berth.
If they win this game I think they hit that 8-0 mark and then all bets are off. They get Louisville/Syracuse/Army/Duke. Would any of those teams be favored against UVA? In my numbers, I have UVA as Wake’s hardest test until they hit that back four of the schedule. You’re finally healthy defensively, which has been your Achilles heel for the last 3 years, Sam Hartman seems to be coming into his own, the receivers and running backs continue to produce, the offensive line continues to have NFL talent.
This seems like it has the pieces to be *the* year. I will never say Wake will beat Clemson this year, that’s just foolish, but you can still make it a 9-10 win season without that. Win those toss-up games and earn some national respect.
I have avoided this question literally all week. *sigh* Wake 38 UVA 30.
I truthfully think that UNC game was not an anomaly. This is a team that while well-coached, has deficiencies, especially when it comes to the RPO. Time and time again over the last ~7 games, when a team actually is running the RPO, the team kind of freezes and it’s on explosive plays.
I think Wake played an extremely sloppy game last week against FSU and only put up 35 because of a) sloppiness at times but b) taking the air out of the ball and just running it basically the entire second half to run out the clock. If UVA can’t scare this team with a ground game, it’ll allow them to deploy as many combos of 5 DBs as they want, which is surprisingly their deepest unit right now.
Brennan Armstrong can only do so much, and I think Wake plays the type of football that when run correctly just causes too many issues for this UVA defense. I think this game will be close through midway through the fourth, but getting worn down by Wake’s stable of running backs will prove to finally catch UVA off guard enough for Wake to catch a lead and hold onto it.
Best of Law Blogging: travel restrictions, alumni relations and why you shouldn’t “do the right thing”
It’s Friday and that means we’ve got a fresh batch of our favorite blog posts from the past week all hand-picked by members of our publishing team. COVID-19 remains top of mind for many legal bloggers as they continue to deal with everything from changing travel restrictions, new local orders and unvaccinated employees. We also have posts about workers compensation, advice on creating an alumni relations program and even references to a recent Marvel television show.
It’s not often someone tells you “Don’t do the right thing,” but Mike Helfand certainly makes the case for it. Helfand tells us the story of an employee who was injured on the job and tried to do right by his company, only to be left in a precarious legal situation. Helfand knows his audience well and tells it like it is. He provides great advice to clients and potential clients in plain terms and demonstrates exactly why he’s a lawyer you should want to work with. Read the full story at Illinois Workers Compensation Law Blog.
Veteran law blogger Daniel Schwartz is unafraid to mix some fun elements into his posts—and as a fan of Marvel comics, the Loki references throughout this one had me chuckling. This post is a great example of a lawyer providing solid legal analysis, but ensuring it isn’t too dry by inserting their own voice and personality into their writing. Lawyers and non-lawyers alike can appreciate a well-crafted post like this. Available at Connecticut Employment Law Blog.
Some employers may soon impose premium surcharges on non-vaccinated employees with company health plans. Natalie Nathanson follows up on Jackson Lewis’s prior coverage of this issue with insights on exactly how much that surcharge can be. Nathanson gives quite an in-depth analysis on how the Affordable Care Act intersects with this issue and gives employers concrete direction on how to proceed. She does this all while linking to other firm publications, using numbered lists and bolded subheadings—all features which make for a great blog post. Give it a read at Benefits Law Advisor.
LA County Issues New Health Order Affecting Bars, Breweries, Wineries, Distilleries, Restaurants, and Outdoor Mega Events
With all the new COVID guidance rolling out—and it varying greatly by state and even counties—it can be hard to keep up and know what applies to you and what doesn’t. Well, if you’re in LA, Jill Ripke and Lara Grines have got you covered. They offer a great post that’s not only chalk-full of information regarding the latest public health order for the county, but one that’s extremely well-organized and easy to scan. You can quickly pinpont the information you need thanks to their reader-friendly formatting. Available at Perkins Coie’s Coronavirus (COVID-19): Guidance for Businesses.
If your firm doesn’t have an alumni relations program, it’s worth considering. And who better to pitch the idea than Stefanie Marrone, who has run alumni programs at several firms. She utilizes her personal experience when writing this post, which lends it credibility and makes it all the more persuasive. Marrone goes on to explain how to create and run a program as well. Her blog post does it all, offering great advice for readers and also providing an action plan on how to get things started. Check it out at The Social Media Butterfly.
I try not to select more than one COVID-related post in the same week, but I had to highlight this piece authored by Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Shaena Rowland. She does an excellent job providing some in-depth coverage on the recent announcement concerning direct entry into the U.S. by fully vaccinated international travelers. Even though she prefaces her FAQ portion by mentioning there are few details available at the moment, she answers 14 questions likely to arise to the best of her ability. More on these eased restrictions at Business Immigration Insights.
We know some of the names already ruled out for Week 3. Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (foot), wide receiver Michael Gallup (calf), defensive tackle Neville Gallimore (elbow), defensive tackle Carlos Watkins (knee), defensive end Dorance Armstrong (ankle), and offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe (illness) will all miss the game against the Eagles. Linebacker Keanu Neal (COVID) could also miss the game.
Safety Donovan Wilson also looks like a good bet to miss the game as he’s been out with a groin injury for a couple of weeks, and is still not practicing. Wide receiver Amari Cooper is pushing though with his bruised ribs and should go on Monday night given he practiced with no restrictions today.
You can see the Eagles side of things below. They are missing a few key veterans but they will probably go on Monday as they are listed as partially resting. But they will be without Brandon Brooks and Brandon Graham.

When Nikita Crump, a popular van-life blogger, discovered that she had the exact same white Ford Transit van as Gabby Petito, she shuddered.
“It’s a sense of knowing your living quarters have identical bones — identical square footage,” the 30-year-old Crump told The Post from Yosemite National Park. “I felt like I probably would have eventually met her had this not happened, because I go the extra mile to connect with people who have the same vehicle.”
The van-life community is reeling from the homicide of Gabby Petito, the 22-year-old Long Island native who never returned home from a roadtrip with fiancé Brian Laundrie. Petito’s remains were found in a Wyoming campground on Sept. 19, and Laundrie, a person of interest in the case, has gone missing. On social media over the summer, Petito posted smiling photos of herself and Laundrie in front of beautiful landscapes, but such photogenic moments seemed to have concealed darker truths about her life on the road.
Van life has gained steam amidst the pandemic, with young people untethered from office work and looking to travel by car. On Instagram alone, there are 11 million posts tagged #vanlife, many of them featuring young, nubile travelers in front of beautiful scenery. But those in the community are quick to note that the lifestyle isn’t all it’s Instagrammed to be, and that a dangerous underbelly lurks beneath.
“People say, ‘You’re living the dream, you have the best life.’ And it’s like, ‘No, there are struggles,’” said Crump, who’s been roadtripping for about two years and has 1 million followers on TikTok. “It’s not all happy-go-lucky.”
The 5-foot-5, 115-pound Crump, who mainly travels solo, has endured a number of incidents with creepy men making crude comments and threatening her, leaving her scared for her life. She sleeps with her keys within reach, should she need to make a quick exit.
About a year ago, she was shooting a video for BuzzFeed when a sketchy guy appeared to be circling her van and then sidled right up to her and asked her itinerary. After finishing the video, she fled while watching over her back. “I looked at every single vehicle and person to make sure it wasn’t him,” she said. “I contemplated calling the cops but didn’t know if that was dramatic and a waste of their time. In hindsight, I absolutely should have called them.”
More recently, she was traveling with another young woman, Billie Webb, a 22-year-old from Indiana. They were both parked in St. Louis and Webb forgot to cover the van’s windows at night. At 2 a.m. she was awoken by a knock.
“This guy takes out his genitals and rubs them against my window,” recalled Webb. The two made the quick decision to immediately drive off. “It was one of the scariest experiences I’ve ever had in my life.”
Other van-lifers note that they are constantly on guard. Sunny Flaherty, 24, who has been on the road with boyfriend Jordan Summerlin, 26, for the past five years, recalled a terrifying incident a few years back. She and a caravan of friends were huddled around a campfire in the Arizona desert when a menacing man approached the group. He whipped out a machete and “threatened to burn down the buses in camp,” she said. The group quickly fled. “We have a rule that if any one of us had a weird feeling, we would all leave,” said Flaherty. “I still use that rule to this day to stay safe.”
Fending off creeps and psychopaths is hardly the only worry.
“During the day, there’s a subconscious stress on your shoulders — you’re worrying about where you’re going to shower and use the bathroom that day . . . or if you have a flat tire,” said Crump. But creating content for YouTube and other sites demands that she put on a happy face.
“It’s challenging and strange to have a job that expects you to be this chipper person all the time,” said Crump. “I’m not always in the mood to film me and show parts of my life — it’s stressful and annoying and feels a little icky. It’s one thing to work in retail and be chipper while at a register, but it’s different to be in your space and falsify your happiness.”
Amber, author of the popular Always the Adventure blog, concurred.
“Van life can take a toll on your mental health if you’re not good at managing it,” the 27-year-old Montana native told The Post.
“[It] is so trendy now, but most people don’t . . . post the bad days,” added the blogger, who asked not to use her last name for safety reasons. “You look at the van-life hashtag on Instagram, and it’s all these beautiful beach pictures. You don’t see the nights at the Denny’s parking lot because you can’t find anywhere else safe to sleep.”
She recalled one instance where she and her boyfriend of six years had to dig out their 6,000-pound van from red clay in the New Mexico desert with no cell service. “It was one of these more intense life situations, but we got through it,” said Amber.
Such instances and van life in general can be especially taxing on relationships.
“If you’re in a small space with someone, it’s a recipe for disaster,” Flaherty said. “It can definitely be hard to do with a partner. Imagine when your car breaks down and you have no place to live. There are times when you’re just sleeping in a Walmart parking lot.”
Amber, who has been traveling with her boyfriend for the past two years, related to the police body camera footage of an emotional dispute between Petito and Laundrie taken in Moab, Utah on Aug. 12.
“The footage is realistic. I get it — I get those really stressful days when nothing’s going right. You just had a bad week, and everything’s going wrong,” she said. “Things can feel like that and you can end up on the side of the road crying.”
She cautions those who are thinking about hitting the road themselves: It’s not all desert vistas and sunsets over mountaintops.
“People go into van life trying to run away and think it will be an escape from life. It’s not,” she said. “It’s just a different way to live it. It’s high highs and low lows.”
There are few rivalries in the NFL quite like that between the Cowboys and the Eagles. After all, how many other rivalries can spend a full news cycle talking about a head coach’s apparel?
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni wearing a “Beat Dallas” shirt: “I’m sure they’re going to have a picture of this shirt on (their bulletin board). And that’s fine. … I can’t tell you how many times since I’ve been here having an interaction with a fan, it’s like, ‘Hey, beat Dallas.’” pic.twitter.com/Z7p9u7vjG6
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) September 23, 2021
Okay, maybe the Browns and Steelers already did this one, but Freddie Kitchens is no longer a head coach so it’s a moot point. Nick Sirianni’s T-shirt aside, there is plenty of bad blood between these two teams, and the circumstances heading into this game will make the Monday Night Football matchup all the more entertaining.
Both teams enter the game at 1-1, and with the Washington Football Team playing on the road against the Bills on Sunday, it’s very possible that the winner of this contest will emerge with sole possession of first place in the NFC East.
For the Eagles, they’re still very much working out the kinks after hitting the factory reset in the offseason. Owner Jeffrey Lurie, just three seasons removed from winning his first Super Bowl ever, spared longtime general manager Howie Roseman but fired head coach Doug Pederson and jettisoned Carson Wentz to the Colts. The Eagles replaced Pederson with Nick Sirianni, the non-playcalling offensive coordinator for Colts head coach Frank Reich, who himself had been the non-playcalling offensive coordinator for the Eagles when they won their Super Bowl. Sirianni is now paired with Jalen Hurts, who will be making just his seventh start on Monday night.
Many expected this Eagles team to be one of the very worst in the NFL, but they started out their year with a (somewhat surprising) win over the Falcons. Hurts played well in that game, hitting on over 77% of his passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns and adding seven carries for 62 yards. However, Hurts’ passes in that game traveled an average of 3.7 yards past the line of scrimmage, the lowest in the NFL that first week.
Hurts and Sirianni changed things up last week against the 49ers, taking many more shots down the field; Hurts’ passes traveled an average of 14.6 yards past the line of scrimmage, the highest of any quarterback in Week 2. The result, however, was not the same. Hurts only completed 52% of his passes for 190 yards. He did score a touchdown on the ground – the Eagles’ only touchdown against San Francisco – on top of his 82 yards from 10 carries, but Philadelphia lost by a score of 17-11.
The current consensus on Hurts is that he’s been extremely efficient on shorter passes but has struggled with pushing it deep. Sirianni has also been unafraid to make Hurts a part of their running game. One other noticeable trend for Hurts so far is his unwillingness to test defenses in the middle of the field:
I expect to see even more Quarters coverage from the Cowboys against the Eagles. They need to defend the RPO and dare the Eagles offense to attack MoF pic.twitter.com/S06unPDiKT

It will be interesting to see how Dan Quinn and this Cowboys defense attacks Hurts’ tendencies. Quinn’s first two games as the new defensive coordinator haven’t been easy. First, it was Tom Brady and a deadly assortment of pass catchers, and then he had to game plan for the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year without his two best edge rushers.
Hurts doesn’t quite compare to Brady and Justin Herbert, but his dual-threat potential offers some issues. The Cowboys will be playing without DeMarcus Lawrence, Carlos Watkins, and Keanu Neal, which could impact their ability to contain Hurts as a runner. As a passer, Hurts has been known to take his time reading defenses. Only three other quarterbacks are holding the ball longer than Hurts so far this year. Yet Hurts can afford to do so, as the Eagles’ offensive line ranks second in pass block win rate and 14th in adjusted sack rate. That will put the onus on the Dallas secondary to prevent Hurts from getting in a rhythm.
On the other side is, of course, Dak Prescott. This will be the first time these two quarterbacks have met, since Prescott was injured for both games last year. In both of the Cowboys’ games so far, Dak has looked as good as ever. The Eagles’ defense, run by first-time coordinator Jonathan Gannon, currently ranks eighth in defensive DVOA. However, they’ve played against two quarterbacks – Matt Ryan and Jimmy Garoppolo – who rank in the bottom half of the league in EPA so far. Prescott, currently sixth in EPA, represents the first true test of this defense.
More than that, this offense is run by Kellen Moore, who Philadelphia wanted for their head coaching vacancy this past offseason. While they ultimately settled
for on Sirianni, they’ll now have to defend against Moore’s offense that has just shown in back-to-back weeks how potent they can be despite having completely different styles of offense in both games. The Eagles will be without their top edge rusher in Brandon Graham, so it’ll be interesting to see who they lean on against this multiple offensive attack from Moore and Prescott.
As intense as this rivalry can be, the impact this game will have on the divisional race is bigger. Mike McCarthy, now in his second season with the team, was hired to get the Cowboys over the hump and make a Super Bowl run. The first step is winning the NFC East, and winning division games goes a long way towards accomplishing that goal. With this being their first home game of the year, Dallas has an opportunity to give their fans something to be excited about while also notching their first divisional win of the year. While this isn’t quite in the realm of “must-win,” a victory on Monday night would certainly go a long way.
